Calcium D-Glucarate is a compound naturally found in fruits and vegetables. It directly supports the Phase II liver detox glucuronidation pathway which deactivates toxic compounds (by binding with glucuronic acid) so they can be rendered harmless and safely excreted from the body through the stool or urine. Elevated levels of the beta-glucuronidase enzyme in the intestines break the tight bond between glucuronic acid and the toxins, causing them to be instead reabsorbed back into the bloodstream. Due to heavy toxic burdens and liver stress, glucuronic acid can become deficient and supplementing with Calcium D-Glucarate can assist with healthy elimination of toxins, especially when undertaking a detoxification protocol.
Glucuronic acid (and glucuronidation) is decreased by one of more of the following: The use of NSAIDS, sedatives, anxiety medication and antibiotics, smoking, alcohol use, obesity, insulin resistance and dysbiosis.
